Wired to Watch Cable Television
It’s human nature to do things today the same way that we did them yesterday. This is one of the reasons we get stuck into watching cable television. It’s the way we watched television before and it’s likely the way we’ll watch TV tomorrow. You could say that we’re wired to watch cable television.
Unfortunately, the way we are wired to watch television is limited and expensive.
Our Television Expectations
Over the course of time, we have learned what to expect from our television services. We expect a routine. Viewers come to not only expect a routine, but to crave it as well.
Our television shows are on at regular dates and times. If they are not on schedule, viewers become confused and upset. Their schedule has been interrupted.
Cable subscribers have also come to expect to pay for their service. But how much should one pay for television?
Consumers Expect to Pay for Television
Originally, viewers paid for television services exclusively by watching ads that were presented during their program. This paid for the production of the television content.
When cable TV came along, it made the television programming more accessible. Additional fees were added to pay for the cost of this increased convenience. In short, viewers were now paying for the program production and the distribution.
Now with the internet, there is another way to access television. And it really is just another way to distribute the programming. So really, if you are paying for internet service, then you are also paying for television.
How About a New Way?
Instead of a schedule, how about freedom to watch what you want, when you want? The viewer has complete control over the content they watch with streaming television.
Instead of paying multiple times for the production, distribution and delivery of television programs, how about just paying for internet? Consumers who pay for high speed internet already have access to television programming. And not just television shows, but movies and music as well.
Breaking the Cycle
Consumers have a choice. Instead of being “wired to watch cable television”, break the cycle of paying too much for too little content.
Although there was very little selection yesterday, viewers can get much more to enjoy today.
Just because you’ve paid too much for television before, it doesn’t mean you have to do the same tomorrow.
It’s a new way of thinking and it takes some effort to cut the cable.
