How Does it Work?
If you are unacquainted with a Kodi-based entertainment system, you may be wondering .. How Does it Work?
Quite simply, all of the entertainment you currently watch (such as television shows and movies) are freely available on the internet right now. After any feature’s initial airing or broadcast, it will be picked up on the internet. In many cases, the content is offered online by the original broadcasters.
In other cases, television show and movie features are shared and streamed from various unofficial online sources. Regardless of the source, it is perfectly safe and legal to stream any content which is in the public domain (internet).
Streaming TV Boxes Are Just Computers
Many of the devices we use today, are simply computers.
Smart phones, cable TV boxes, tablets, music devices, all of these items are basic computers. As such, they all work on the same basic principles.
Similarly, all streaming TV boxes are just small (mini) computers.
So What is Kodi?
Kodi is a media center platform. A platform is software that hosts a collection of individual applications that can perform tasks.
To better understand this, let’s look at a common example.
A regular PC uses an operating system (Like Windows 10) on which you can load a platform like Microsoft Office.
Within Microsoft Office there are a number of programs you can add like Excel or Word.
A Streaming TV Box uses an operating system (like Android or Linux) on which you can load a platform called Kodi.
Within Kodi, you can load additional programs (or plug-ins). These programs (referred to as 3rd party addons) find, decode and play the content (shows and movies) that you have selected to watch.
So when you hear someone mention a “Kodi box”, you know they are simply referring to a computer which has the Kodi media center platform loaded.
Android Boxes
If you have heard of streaming TV boxes before, you probably heard of them referred to as “Android Boxes”. These are the most popular type of streaming devices.
The reason they are so popular is that they are relatively inexpensive to make and to set-up with a Kodi platform.
Additionally, they use a familiar operating system that you would also find in popular tablets and smart phones.
Consumers should be aware; however, that Android Boxes do have some drawbacks.
The main concern is that the set-up (or build) of Kodi will always need to be modified.
In order to keep a streaming TV box working well, the device must always be adjusted to access the best performing addons (apps).
Needless to say that with a cheap price tag, many Android boxes have little or no on-going support.
As a result, even the most impressive sounding TV box has no value if it does not perform well in the long run.
